DIY Friday: Bookish Paper Fortune Cookies

Hello! Hello! Hello!

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a bit crafty. I love making things no matter what it is. So I decided that I would start posting bookish DIY every first Friday of every month. It can be either crafts, jewelry, recipes or any other type of thing that crosses my mind. I hope you all enjoy these as much as I love making them. Allons-y!

For my first DIY Friday I wanted to theme them with Valentine’s Day. I wanted it to be something bookish that could be given to any book lover and that was also different and original. I decided to go with paper fortune cookies that had bookish love quotes in them. The way these are going to work is I will post a step by step pic and write the instructions underneath the picture. They are fairly easy to make.

Here is what they look like in the end. So let’s get started.

To make these I used :

  • Craft paper that you can get at Michaels or any other craft store. They are also great for scrapbooking.
  • Blank sheet of paper on which I will be writing the quotes.
  • Circle template. I found an old cookie metal box that was 5 inches in diameter, but any round object will work (I’ve also included a printable template for you guys below)
  • A glue gun or any type of glue stick or double-sided tape
  • Coloring pencils & scissors

Step 1: Draw circles on the back of your craft paper using your template. And then proceed to cut the circles out. Put them aside for now.

Step 2: On a blank sheet of paper write the quotes you want to put un your fortune cookies and cut them out. I decided to write these by hand but you could do them on the computer and print them out. I would try to keep my pieces of paper smallish so they fit better in the cookies.

Step 3: Take your cut out circles and place them in your hand as on picture and start to bend them in between your thumb and fingers. Place your paper quote in the middle.

Step 4: Close your circle completely with your paper quote still in the middle.

Step 5: Put your thumb on one end and your middle finger on the other then push in the center with your index finger.

Step 6: Keep pushing until it folds in half. Place a glue dot at the bottom of the folded area to hold the 2 sides together. If you are using glue sticks I would suggest holding them closed with a clothespin while the glue dries.

And Voila! your own bookish fortune cookies.
